Almost everything alive becomes ill at some stage in its life, and pets are no exception. I had been incredibly fortunate in that my a couple of cats have been very healthy for most of their lives. Recently the oldest cat become ill and had to go towards the vet. Unfortunately she was diagnosed with a type of cancer. The treatment options had been pills or radiation 'therapy'. The radiation therapy was extremely costly so that left the pills. Pills are fine for humans, but in case you have ever tried to administer pills for your cat then you would know a few of the issues I have had.

I generally feed my cats over a dry 'all in one' biscuit diet. This diet including a supplement of fresh food has kept them extremely healthy for more than 14years. But now I need to add pills to her diet each twelve hours. So what do I feed her which will hide the pill well ample for her to take it with no complaining? Well right after some experimentation I came towards the conclusion that hiding a whole pill was not the answer. Not the answer at all. Whole pills are located and removed inside the food with incredible accuracy. The simple answer is to crush the pills before adding them towards food.
( Note : The pill needs to be added to a smaller amount of foods - half a normal serve or less, and that modest number need to be given to your pet Before the sleep of the meal. This helps to make certain your cat is hungry sufficient to consume the entire pill. Once the pill foods is eaten you are able to give them the rest of the meal.)

Pills are typically very effortless to crush into powder, I use two spoons, 1 small teaspoon as the crusher, and a larger desert spoon to hold the pill. Place the pill into the larger spoon and using the edge from the tiny spoon as being a blunt knife, carefully break the pill into modest chunks. Now use the smaller teaspoon to gently crush the chunks into powder. In a smaller amount than 2 minutes you ought to be able to sprinkle the powdered pill onto a little serve of food. Crushing the pill gets a lot simpler when you have done a couple of or three.

This is how I prepare chicken or fish for my cat at pill time :

Chicken : Cooked (cold)

Cooked chicken is a common foods of my cats so it is a great pill foods for them. To create probably the most reputable pill hiding foods from cold chicken is extremely incredibly easy. First of all you need to prepare the pill by crushing it into a powder as described above. Then you desire a tiny serve of chicken that you just can breakup into smallish pieces - use your fingers, it gives essentially the most results. When you have broken up the chicken add a tiny quantity of water on the serving plate and roll the chicken during the water until it is wet all over. Now drain the excess water during the plate - as well much water will leave the pill on a plate and not over a foods exactly where it needs to be. The next step is optional, but it makes a large difference for my pets. The next step is to place the food in a microwave oven. All you want to complete is Extremely GENTLY warm up the food, I use about 6 SECONDS on high. What you are seeking is to eliminate the coldness in the food - which activates the SMELL from the food. Don't make the food hot! ( The heat could damage the pill you are trying to feed them, and not several cats will consume hot food anyway.) Now which you have a very gently warmed serve of meals it's time to add the pill. Just sprinkle the crushed pill more than the wet, warm chicken and serve it up!

Note : Usually add the Pill LAST!

Fish : Raw

If you would like to use raw fish being a pill serving foods then it pays to create certain that the cat in question likes the fish you're going to use. ( Cats are fussy!) I have a couple of cats, one eats fish at each opportunity, as well as the other will walk proper past it and ask for a thing else..

So get a modest piece of fish to test the cat with, and assuming that the fish is accepted it is simple to prepare. I use a pair of kitchen scissors to cut the fish into tiny pieces. A sharp knife is ok but the skin on fish is very tough, so for safety and ease of preparation I use scissors. Once you have the fish cut up all it is advisable to do is sprinkle the powdered pill over the fish and serve it up. Raw fish could be wet and really smelly, so it doesn't require water being added or the microwave to warm it up.

Fish : Cooked (cold)

To prepare a cooked cold fish you basically follow the steps outlined for cooked chicken. Prepare the pill, get a smaller bit of cooked fish and cut or break it up into small pieces. Make it wet, drain off the excess water and zap it during the microwave to your few seconds - do not make the food hot! Add the crushed pill on the warm wet fish and serve it up.

Note : Usually add the Pill LAST!

The function of warming up the foods is to make it smellier. Most food includes a significantly stronger scent or smell after it's at room temperature than it does straight inside the fridge.

If you want a little amount of fresh raw fish it can typically be purchased from the local take away meals shop. Should you need to use cooked fish from a consume away shop bear in mind how the batter or bread crumbs must be removed prior to it is served for the cat. (Well, it should be removed if your cat won't take in the fish with it nevertheless on there..) Also remember to cool the fish down to about room temperature ahead of you add the pill - otherwise the heat may perhaps damage the pill.

Never microwave any pill - it could damage the active ingredients or even make them toxic to your pet.

For those people that are interested, my cats name is "Eff-Gee" ( "F"+"G" ) and she can tell the time as well if not much better than I can. Every 12 hours (+ or - 30mins) she is asking me for her pill meals :-)
My other cat - that does not like fish, is named "Sox". He doesn't really like chicken either. Really he prefers the biscuits over most other foods - unless it's meat with chili on it. He is really a nice cat :-)
